Rosh Hodesh: It’s A Girl Thing: Learn about Special Program for 5th and 6th Grade Girls at December 10th Introductory Session. Come hang out with some cool girls in grades 5-6 for a couple of hours one night a month—and bring some friends. This program brings together Jewish girls in the fifth and sixth grade to celebrate, to learn and to grow together.

Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing! draws on the tradition of Rosh Hodesh to build self-esteem and to enrich Jewish identities of adolescent girls. In an intimate and informal setting, Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing! enables girls to:
• Integrate core Jewish values as they focus on the things they care about most; body image, friendships, relationships, competition, stress, and family.

• Articulate their questions and concerns in a safe and trusting environment

• Develop authentic relationships with their peers and have fun.

The program is designed for girls in grades 5 and 6 and will meet one Monday every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the JCC began January 7. Cost is $150.

The class is led by Jocelyn Segal, M.A.T. Jocelyn Segal is a creative and energetic Jewish educator with a B.A. in psychology and Jewish, Islamic and Near Eastern Studies from Washington University in St. Louis. She also has a Master of Arts in Teaching from Brandeis University. She currently teaches third grade at Cohen Hillel Academy. In addition, Jocelyn facilitates another Rosh Hodesh It’s A Girl Thing! class with Cohen Hillel seventh grade girls. Her passion for women’s health and Judaism makes Rosh Hodesh ”It's A Girl Thing gives young women an opportunity to build strong female relationships in a safe and trusting space while simultaneously exploring their connection to their Judaism. Each month we will mark time as sacred by celebrating the holiday of Rosh Hodesh and we will recognize ourselves as powerful, healthy Jewish women. Laughter, craft making, rituals and anecdotes will fill our special time together,” says Jocelyn Segal, Program Group Leader.

Join in for an introductory meeting on Monday, December 10th from 6:30 pm – 7:30 p.m. If interested, please call Julie Newburg, Program Director at 781-631-8330, ext. 108. Funding from the Robert I. Lappin Charitable Foundation, which sponsors programs that help keep our children Jewish and The Jewish Women’s Endowment Fund, help to make this program possible.
