Social Studies

The Social Studies curriculum at Cohen Hillel helps students develop a spirit of inquiry that will enhance their understanding of the world. Students will also discover how they are shaped by our history. They will learn to express themselves orally and in writing while they question, interpret, assess and reflect upon information from a wide variety of sources.

Students master a core of knowledge in history, geography, economics, civics and government.

The Social Studies curriculum seeks to:

  • develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for cultural diversity
  • show how moral character, ideas and actions affect history
  • build an understanding of the importance and relevance of ancient and modern Israel to Jewish life and help students make lifelong connections to our homeland and our people
  • enable students to make informed choices
  • instill values, both American and Jewish, which will help students become responsible and contributing citizens in a democratic society
