Science

The primary purpose of the science program at Cohen Hillel Academy is to enable students to become inquisitive and scientifically minded and literate. We enable students to engage in the scientific process in the ways that scientists do by emphasizing inquiry-based and authentic science learning.

Furthermore, we seek to foster positive attitudes towards the wonder of science and to help students realize the richness and satisfaction of exploring the mysteries in the world around them.

The science curriculum seeks to:

  • foster an appreciation of the natural and technological world
  • encourage students to think critically and independently
  • develop the habit of learning about new advances in science and their implications
  • guide students in the understanding and use of the scientific process
  • enable students to understand the interdependent relationships between science and other disciplines
  • enable students to see science in all aspects of life
  • encourage the three "Habits of the Mind" outlined in the Massachusetts Science and Technology Curriculum Framework: curiosity, open-mindedness balanced with skepticism, and a sense of stewardship and care for the environment
