Jewish Studies

Cohen Hillel Academy seeks to cultivate the vibrancy of Jewish life and traditions, producing thoughtful, committed, engaged Jews who will be deeply involved in their Judaism throughout their lives. At Cohen Hillel Academy our children know they are part of a wider Jewish community through school-wide celebrations of Shabbat and holidays.

Engaging in the study of the Jewish holiday cycle marks time as sacred and socializes our students into a Jewish value system. We encourage children to ask questions about G-d and to explore spirituality.

The Jewish Studies Curriculum:

  • Connects our students to G-d, the Jewish people and the world at large.
  • Provides "bridges of understanding" for our students through the integration of Jewish studies with general studies.
  • Instills in our children (derech eretz) basic rules of conduct and ethical behavior.
  • Encourages student participation in a variety of giving to others and g'milut chasadim or acts of loving kindness projects.
  • Teaches students that we are in partnership with G-d and are responsible for our world and the people in it, (tikun olam) repairing the world.
  • Provides a key to the (siddur) prayerbook and sacred texts by developing Hebrew language skills.
  • Teaches students to use modern Hebrew as a means of connecting to Israel and the Jewish people.
